Figures show that more than 80% of people in the UK will experience back or neck pain at some point in their lives. The good news is that something can be done, and here at Physiologic we regularly treat people with various types of back and neck pain.
If you are experiencing back or neck pain it is important to keep relatively active, lying on your back for extended periods can actually stiffen your spine further and delay your recovery.
The vast majority of people with back and neck pain respond positively to an appropriate regime of manual therapy followed by an exercise program. This is the most effective way to alleviate back pain in both the short and long term. Our Specialist Physiotherapists are experienced at using techniques such as these.
The solution to the majority of spinal pain is to restore mobility to the stiffened segments and correct any rotations or tilted segments therefore reducing the strain on damaged discs, ligaments and joints. Fascia, muscles, skin and viscera must also be examined to determine their contribution to the problem.
As people get older some areas of the spine stiffen up causing overstrain typically in the low back and neck whilst other segments become increasingly more mobile. At a result the rotation/tilt problem will occur with a minor movement such as reaching to pick something up off the floor. This is what is happening when someone feels something “go” in their back or neck.
Manipulation of the spinal level can correct it and is often hailed as a miracle however the cause of the problem, which is the stiffened segments and surrounding soft tissue has not been addressed. It is therefore easy to understand why the problem often returns.
Specific exercises are essential and always supervised and encouraged to not only reeducate the muscular system but to improve general fitness levels and most importantly to prevent you having to go through the same painful experience again.
At Physiologic we pride ourselves on the low reoccurrence rate for spinal problems.
